The Leipzig Leadership Model serves as a compass in times of constant change, such as the one we are currently experiencing, which is driven by globalization, digitalization and new ecological issues. By emphasizing the fundamental dimensions of good leadership in terms of their contribution to the greater good, the model provides a better understanding of the myriad of new challenges, opportunities and potential of good leadership. Furthermore it aims to elucidate how to utilize them in an entrepreneurially responsible manner. The holistic model is geared towards development and offers sustainable orientation for executives in various fields based on four key perspectives.

Diploma Thesis from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: 1,7, Leipzig Graduate School of Management, language: English, abstract: 'Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful.' Samuel Johnson (1709 - 1784) Nowadays knowledge is the economic basis of each company. One needs to know the product, the technology behind it, but also the customer, the competitor and other circumstances that influence the business . The scientific term for the necessity of information gathering and its transformation into applicable knowledge is Competitive Intelligence (CI). This thesis focuses on three questions regarding CI which are linked in a model. Firstly it gives an overview about the most important types of CI. Based on three types, namely Market Intelligence, Competitor Intelligence and Internal Intelligence, it raises the question if there are industry-specific requirements and general key aspects of the activity. The focus group consists of 15 multinational companies from 6 different industries which were analysed with respect to information gathering and types of CI activities. Secondly the thesis considers legal aspects. It asks how effective international treaties and European laws are in terms of criminal prosecution of unfair competition and protection of intellectual property rights. The considerations are limited to those facts that might be taken into account for CI actions. In addition it analyzes if the results from the first part of the thesis are legally allowed or if some activities are legally questionable. Thirdly it looks at the strategic relevance of the legally gathered information. Therefore it assesses the opportunities of CI activities for strategic implementation based on the existing strategic tool 'Scenario Planning' and proves that the fit of CI and Scenario Planning has potential to create a sustainable Competitive Advantage (CA).

Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Supply, Production, Logistics, printed single-sided, grade: 1,0, Leipzig Graduate School of Management, course: Logistik, language: English, comment: Diese Seminararbeit beinhaltet folgende Themengebiete: - Supply Chain Management - Nachhaltige Entwicklung (Sustainable Development) - Einführung in die Schokoladen- und Kakaoindustrie - Identifizierung von Konzepten zur Einführung eines nachhaltigen SCM in diesen Industrien , abstract: Sustainability has become a significant issue in many companies as it affects their reputation among customers. At the same time, outsourcing and globalization have resulted in the spreading out of supply chains across continents. Therefore, the focus of implementing sustainability has shifted from the single organization to the entire supply chain. This is of particular importance for chocolate manufacturers with their multinational supply chains as they are held responsible by the public for any irregularities which happen in their supply chain.Chocolate brand owners have been confronted with increasing criticism and pressure from politics and public due to the lack of sustainability in their supply chain. A current example is the TV documentary 'Schmutzige Schokolade', a film about child labor on cocoa farms in Ivory Coast, for which the Danish filmmaker Miki Mistrati blames the chocolate manufacturers. The film, which was broadcasted on ARD on October, 6th, 2010, at 11:30p.m., has been sold altogether to 18 countries and was consequently watched by several million television viewers. This paper focuses on Sustainable Supply Chain Management in the chocolate industry. The following chapter contains a short theoretical introduction to the topic. It then focuses on giving an overview of the European, and there specifically on the German chocolate industry. Furthermore, it puts focus on the raw material cocoa from Ivory Coast, as cocoa butter and cocoa powder are among the main ingredients of chocolate and Ivory Coast is the world's largest cocoa producer country. The last two chapters include the description of the importance, weak points, challenges and possible concepts of Sustainable Supply Chain Management for cocoa. The paper finishes with a summary and an outlook.

Entertainment Science

The entertainment industry has long been dominated by legendary screenwriter William Goldman’s “Nobody-Knows-Anything” mantra, which argues that success is the result of managerial intuition and instinct. This book builds the case that combining such intuition with data analytics and rigorous scholarly knowledge provides a source of sustainable competitive advantage – the same recipe for success that is behind the rise of firms such as Netflix and Spotify, but has also fueled Disney’s recent success. Unlocking a large repertoire of scientific studies by business scholars and entertainment economists, the authors identify essential factors, mechanisms, and methods that help a new entertainment product succeed. The book thus offers a timely alternative to “Nobody-Knows” decision-making in the digital era: while coupling a good idea with smart data analytics and entertainment theory cannot guarantee a hit, it systematically and substantially increases the probability of success in the entertainment industry. Entertainment Science is poised to inspire fresh new thinking among managers, students of entertainment, and scholars alike. Thorsten Hennig-Thurau and Mark B. Houston – two of our finest scholars in the area of entertainment marketing – have produced a definitive research-based compendium that cuts across various branches of the arts to explain the phenomena that provide consumption experiences to capture the hearts and minds of audiences. Morris B. Holbrook, W. T. Dillard Professor Emeritus of Marketing, Columbia University Entertainment Science is a must-read for everyone working in the entertainment industry today, where the impact of digital and the use of big data can’t be ignored anymore. Hennig-Thurau and Houston are the scientific frontrunners of knowledge that the industry urgently needs. Michael Kölmel, media entrepreneur and Honorary Professor of Media Economics at University of Leipzig Entertainment Science’s winning combination of creativity, theory, and data analytics offers managers in the creative industries and beyond a novel, compelling, and comprehensive approach to support their decision-making. This ground-breaking book marks the dawn of a new Golden Age of fruitful conversation between entertainment scholars, managers, and artists. Urban Regeneration and Social Sustainability

Urban regeneration is a key focus for public policy throughout Europe. This book examines social sustainability and analyses its meaning and significance - an area of research which has, until now, been comparatively neglected. The authors offer a comprehensive European perspective to identify best practice in sustainable urban regeneration in five major cities in Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, and the UK. Urban Regeneration & Social Sustainability: best practice from European cities examines the extent to which social sustainability is incorporated within urban regeneration projects in the EU, but also investigates how local authorities, developers, investors and other key stakeholders approach sustainability. The book covers the recent economic recession and the growth of responsible investment (RI) and corporate responsibility (CR) agendas of investors and developers. It also provides a thorough analysis of the current metrics and tools used by the public, private and NGO sectors to implement, measure and monitor social sustainability. A range of urban regeneration models and vehicles are reviewed, with a particular emphasis on public private partnerships (PPPs) and EU structural funds, and a new framework for assessing social sustainability is described. City-specific case studies examine regeneration projects in which institutional arrangements, financial products and tools, monitoring and measurement systems for social sustainability and stakeholders' participation in PPPs have delivered successful urban regeneration. This comprehensive, systematic and authoritative overview of both the scholarly literature and current best practice across Europe makes the book essential reading for researchers and post-graduate students in sustainable development, real estate, geography, urban studies and urban planning, as well as consultants and policy advisors in urban regeneration and the built environment. * Provides a comprehensive European perspective, comparing case studies across five cities and identifying best practice in sustainable urban regeneration by focusing on social sustainability * Defines and shows how social sustainability (a key aspect in sustainable development) can be assessed, measured and monitored within urban regeneration projects * Takes a real estate 'institutional' focus by examining the role of key stakeholders within the property development industry and the public sector * Examines detailed studies of urban regeneration projects in Spain (Sant Adria de Besos), Italy (Turin), Netherlands (Rotterdam), Germany (Leipzig), and the UK (Cardiff) * Sets the research in the context of the recent economic recession and the growth of responsible investment (RI) and corporate responsibility (CR) agendas of investors and developers * Is based on a major three year independent, funded programme of research through the European Investment Bank's EIBURS programme.

Founded in 1991, the UFZ Centre for Environmental Research Leipzig Halle was the first and only research institute in the Hermann von Helm holtz Association of German Research Centres (HGF) to be exclusively dedicated to environmental research. Nowadays environmental research calls for interdisciplinary and applied approaches. At the UFZ, landscape based research and environmental medicine are combined within interdisci plinary research topics with social sciences and ecological economics. Economic and sociological environmental research at the UFZ is geared towards the model of sustainable development. Research is currently fo cused at a local and a regional level. In order to ensure the transferability of regional solutions, work is pursued against the background and in awareness of global ecological interrelations as well as national and international con ditions. In July 1998, the UFZ's Department of Ecological Economics and Envi ronmental Sociology organised an international UFZ Summer School in Leipzig, Germany, dedicated to 'Ecological Economics and Regional Sustainability - New Frontiers in Interdisciplinary Research?' Its focus was on the scientific exchange of ideas and experience related to regional sus tainable development. The papers concentrated on innovative approaches towards bridging the gap between the natural and the social sciences in ap plied research projects.
